Random Alpaca

My week ended up having less free time than I originally anticipated, which has slowed down progress a bit. But I’ve also found myself short on photos to populate the guides! It’s not that I don’t have them. The issue is that I archive all of my photos to Amazon Glacier and many of them aren’t backed up elsewhere in a way that I can easily sift through them. There are external hard drives strewn about my belongings - some in my room, some in storage, with all manner of photos and documents from the last 10+ years.

So in order to access my photos, I basically have to download my entire Amazon Glacier archive which will take days and cost unknown dollars. I’m hoping I can scavenge up enough photos from my Dropbox, Flickr, Google Photos, and whatever external hard drives I can muster up, but I think this is a sign of bigger issues and I’m going to have to bite the bullet and find a better solution for my photos. That’s a project for next week I suppose.

The good news is in my digging for photos, I found an old file of “trip logs” I wrote from my backpacking trip around Europe in 2009. Some of it is probably dated, but at least it goes to show that I’ve been wanting to work on this project for about 7 years now! I have one for each city I visited. Now I just have to find the photos I took in those places.

I also made one neat little improvement, thanks to Bogan’s suggestion: There’s a pinned map on the Guides page to make things more interesting.

I think now it’s a matter of just writing tons of guides. The rest of the site can wait - if the guides aren’t there and up to snuff, there’s really no point in doing anything else!

My request to you: what would be helpful in a city guide? What cities would you like to see guides for? You can let me know in the comments below, or on Facebook or Twitter! Or you can use the “Request a Guide” link I’ve added to the top of the site!

Now I have to go back to writing guides. Enjoy the alpaca (I think it’s an alpaca?). :)
