Brooklyn Bridge Park

Hello friends! It’s been a while!

It’s been 249 days since I was last on an airplane. Ugh. I’ve been firmly ensconced in the NY tristate area. I took a great job at the end of last year and that basically consumed my life for the first half of 2015. It was great, don’t get me wrong, but the wanderlust was still there. It did give me a chance to re-establish some roots in NYC. I got a new apartment, new furniture, and settled in a bit. I managed to keep to my minimalistic mantra and my apartment has just the basics. I don’t even have anything to put on my shelves! BUT! It’s a great apartment in a neighborhood I like, and I have a balcony where I can attempt to have a (very) little urban farm. Things have been good.

As part of my new job, I sadly had to cancel my trip to Ireland earlier this year. I didn’t take a single vacation day between December and July. Phew. I saved up to book a few trips for the second half of the year, though! Lined up so far for the rest of this year are a long weekend in Boston in August, a long weekend in LA in September and another 5 days in Iceland in November.

But! Now that I’m…ehem… “between jobs”… I have my eyes peeled for some awesome deals. This time the budget is way tighter and the timeline isn’t “infinite” so we’ll see if I can manage to swing a few trips before the end of the year. Not to mention I kind of need to try to stick around the NYC area to interview for a new job. Even though deep down part of me really wants to make a go of this whole independent life thing. But that’ll take more time to get off the ground than I have available to me right now. So I’m in search of a job that will give me some flexibility or have travel as a part of it. Fingers crossed!

Meanwhile, I’ve been toying with the idea of setting a budget - say $3000 - and seeing how far I can stretch it. Where can I go and what I can I do with a specific amount of money? It would be an interesting adventure to pack for. And I’ll have to obsess over airfare and optimize for visiting places where I have friends who might loan me a couch to sleep on, but it does sound really fun right now. Plus with end of summer/early fall airfare deals popping up, things could get interesting!

Maybe my trips will be within the US for a little while. Or maybe I’ll find some great deals to Europe (like this one to Amsterdam that popped up a few days ago).

If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them! Or if you have any ideas for my $3000 challenge - I’m especially excited about the prospect of that!

Until next time…which hopefully won’t be long from now!
